Genix Guinness World Record!!!!
Starting 9am on the 16th February 2005 Genix Attempted a Guinness world record for the longest DJ set in history. This lasted for four days and ended at 9pm on Saturday 19th. This record attempt was a massive 84 hour DJ set that surpassed the previous record that stood at just over 81 hours. The record attempt took place in Hinckley at ‘Beavers Bar' where Genix hosts monthly night ‘Nu-Revolution' with other residents Stu J & Maccavelli. Musically Genix played dance music across the board including progressive house, Breakbeat, uplifting trance and many of his own tracks. As Genix is active in the music industry he saw this as an opportunity to put on an event to showcase himself as a DJ and raise money for charity. He also saw it as a great thing to look back on and a big achievement he could look back on later in life.
The event raised over a Thousand pounds for Loughborough based Charnwood Charity which is aimed at the homeless. The four days in which Genix was behind the decks were some of the toughest in his life. He DJ'd for eight hour slots at a time with a fifteen minute break at the end of each session. When it came to toilet and eating he played some old trance classics such as ‘BT- Flaming' June & ‘Delerium – Silence' as they were around ten minutes in length. He had to take down every single track he played from the first until last track and played over 800 records! The track list was requested by Guinness World Records and will be submitted along with witness accounts, photographs, an official council document and film footage of the whole thing! The attempt was recognized as an official Guinness World Record and Genix is now a fixture in the famous book with a picture on page 84... ironic!
Quote from Genix…..
‘ I found this a lot tougher than I could possibly have imagined. After the first two days I thought I would do it easy with no problems at all. Then the third day became a lot tougher with the lack of sleep really starting to kick in. When Saturday came around I didn't know where I was! I didn't even know how to use all my equipment! It was such an amazing feeling when I was approaching the 84 hours…. The venue was rammed full and the atmosphere was amazing… people were clapping and cheering my name.. its something I will never forget. If someone ever tried to break my new record then I will happily congratulate them.. its such a tough thing to do and I would personally never attempt anything like this again. Im just so pleased that I completed the set and raised money for charity. I would like to say a MASSIVE thank you to all the people who have supported me with my attempt. Iv had great help from all my friends and the press and couldn't have done it without you! Also a special thank you to JFK for his DJ set after me and to Hannah Brine (Access To Music), Damo's Limo's, Budweiser, Carling, Engine (Coalville), Regenerate, Galifords, Penny price, Beavers Bar, Red Bull for your donations and a big thank you to Zique Audio who provided the fantastic sound system that I used during the whole event. Thankyou!'
